Two Day Horse Adventure - Riding in
Monteverde and Journey to Arenal Volcano
Be a cowboy or cowgirl for a day and enjoy the
delights and wonderful views of the Monteverde and Volcano Arenal
area by horseback! A unique two-day tour that includes a warm up
riding class, two days of riding, food and accommodation. During the
dry months no riding experience is needed but a healthy sense of
adventure is required! During the wetter months this tour is for
experienced riders only and only when conditions permit.
Day 1
11.00am. Pick-up at your hotel or other specified place in
Monteverde. Quick drive to our stables in Santa Elena where our
experienced Costa Rican horse guides will choose the most suitable
horse for each person, depending on size and experience of rider. We
have healthy, well cared for horses and clean comfortable saddles.
We start the ride with a warm up at the farm – a time to get to know
your horse and pick up a few riding tips. This is followed by a
beautiful ride in our private forest. We then wind our way up the
jungle edged road to the Mirador Lodge, which offers a view point of
the Arenal Volcano and Lake.
At about 2.00pm, after approximately 3 hours on the horses, we
will arrive at our picnic-spot where a snack of fruit, nuts, bread
and Monteverde cheese will be provided. After our snack we will
continue by horse for 20 minutes until we reach “El Mirador Lodge”,
your accommodation for the night.
There will be time to do a quick afternoon
hike of the surrounding forest or you can just relax with a cold
beer and take in the stunning views of the Volcano and the Lake, or
simply rest in the cabin style accommodation. At 6.00 pm a Costa
Rican style evening meal will be provided. Alcoholic and soft
beverages can be bought at the restaurant.
DAY 2
7am. A hearty breakfast before we depart.
8am. Time to mount the horses. This
adventurous horse ride is one of the most scenic in Costa Rica. We
will wind down the mountain taking in wonderful views of forested
hills, farmland, the volcano and lake. We will enjoy a fruit fiesta
along the way.
Approximate time with breaks: 5 ½ hours
1.30pm. Boat ride across the scenic Arenal lake and a final short
taxi ride to the small town of La Fortuna should bring you to your
hotel at approximately 2.30pm. Plenty of time for a volcano hike and
a relaxing soak in the many hot springs in the area.
